Graduated in Electronic Engeneering from Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos, University of São Paulo (USP), in 1984, with an specialization in Electronic Computing from the Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas de São Carlos, USP, (today called Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação). His graduate studies were performed at Instituto de Física de São Carlos, with a M.Sc. (1989) and a D.Sc. (1993) in Applied Physics, encompassing the use of parallel processing techniques for molecular dynamics. Today he is an Associate Professor at Instituto de Física de São Carlos, where he teaches Computer Science classes to Computational Physics students. His curent research interests include complex networks, parallel and distributed computer systems, the use of computational techniques for science (specially Physics and Biology) and the complex behavior emergent in large scale distributed systems.
