Progress in porous materials can lead to new technologies and in particular novel microporous polymers (these are synthetic polymers full of pores that only allow a few atoms to pass at a time) are currently of interest. In our research we explore how ions and molecule can move through these pores and how phenomena such as “ionic diodes” (similar to well-known electronic diodes, but based on ion transport) could be used in areas such as energy harvesting, fuel cells, or water desalination.
