Full Professor at the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC) at the University of São Paulo (USP). PhD in Physics from USP (1993), with a research internship at the Università di Genova, Italy (19901991). Full member of the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (ACIESP). Co-founder of the Brazilian Materials Research Society (SBPMat) and the Brazilian Association for Crystal Growth. Conducts research in the fields of Materials Physics, Materials Science, and Science Education and Outreach.Served as Director of IFSC-USP (20102014), Dean of Undergraduate Studies at USP (20142018), and Vice President of USP (20182022). Since 2000, he has been the creator and general coordinator of various university outreach projects aimed at high school teachers and students. Currently, five of these projects CUCO (USP Competition of Knowledge and Opportunities), University for a Day, Scientists of Tomorrow, EducaUSP, and Technical Guidance for Teachers are part of the Vem Saber Program, which operates in all public high schools and municipalities in the State of São Paulo. Since 2017, the projects have involved over one million students (data as of November 2024).
