Resume:

He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (1988), a master's degree in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation Institute FIOCRUZ (1991). His doctorate was in Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology - University of California Los Angeles (1998). He is currently a full professor at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos (IFSC) of the University of São Paulo. He was president of the Graduate Committee and Coordinator of the Graduate Course in Physics at IFSC (2013-2016) and vice-head of the Department of Physics and Interdisciplinary Science (2020-2022). He was the proponent of the creation of the Bachelor's Degree in Physical and Biomolecular Sciences at IFSC-USP, serving as its coordinator from 2006 to 2012, coordinator of the Coordinating Committee of the Bachelor's Degree in Sciences - Interunits (IFSC, IQSC, and ICMC) from 2004 to 2010, and coordinating professor of the USP-São Carlos team for the Rondon project, Operation Palmares, in July 2018. He is currently a member of the São Carlos Campus Management Board and a member of the IFSC Library Council. He is a member of the Brazilian Society of Protozoology (SBPz), where he served as a full member of the board from 2012 to 2016. He is a member of the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq) and the International Society for Protistology (ISOP). He has experience in biochemistry, with an emphasis on molecular and structural biology of parasites and structural virology, focusing primarily on kinetoplastid protozoa (Leishmania and Trypanosoma) and free-living amoebae and their giant viruses. His work includes molecular cloning, structural biology, protein translation, selenocysteine #8203;#8203;synthesis, and virion structure.
