The main line of research developed in Solids Spectroscopy Group is the study of nem materials that present technological interest for the making of photonic devices. We performed mainly in spectroscopy of solids: crystals and glasses doped with rare-earth, using the techniques of conventional spectroscopy (absorption, luminescence, excitation, measurements of lifetimes etc.). Raman, solved in time, Thermal Lens and Z-scan. In addition to solids, more recently we habe been working with liquids (quantum dots colloidal solutions and biological markers) and ultrasensitive measurement of the absorption of pure water. Among the applications, we highlighted the development of nanotermometers with rare-earth ions.

In the part of optical instrumentation for spectroscopy, the Group has been active in the application of markers using nanoparticles doped with rare-earth. In this area, the Group conducts instrumentation for detection of prostate cancer by fluorescence and nanothermometers with rare-earth ions.

The Group has also worked in the area of Physics Teaching, with research on electrical circuit learning, development of new experiments and demonstrations.
